Conjoined.

Image
Conjoined and bound by love, We are forever intertwined. My folly is that I forget.  Whether I’m aware or not, I am forever embedded, I am you  And  You are me.  Now I pray, That I never forget, So I live in the wisdom of, Knowing that I am,  Bound by a love that sets me free, I am so immersed, embedded, That I am finally free.  We are impossible to separate,  We merge, conjoined,  With no boundaries of spacetime.  Only sometimes I realize, I am you  And  You are me.  Why does this last for just a fleeting moment,  Can the wisdom sit in my heart, So I never lose it?

The glaring screaming unreal.

Image
I see a shining, piercing light, Screaming into my eyes, The diversity of things, Loudly announcing its existence. Telling me that what I see is fundamental, There is nothing beyond, I believed it all this time, Until I didn’t.   Just how can it be that what seems real to the eyes is actually unreal?  I used a microscope, And found an internal cosmos, All within.  And instead saw what I had never seen, With eyes closed.  How could it be?!  Empty vessels make the most noise, I now understand,  The light that is screaming, Is empty, And the light that is subtle,  Hidden and typically out of focus,  Is brimming with bliss, One reality illumining everything, I find an internal cosmos, With the power of silence and focus I find it, The all illumining, With no beginning and no end, Alive and conscious, Brimming with pure love, I swim in it, And find bliss in just being the light, Bliss in just being.

Hidden Treasures.

Image
I searched and searched for treasures outside, To satisfy the endless, I did not know, That deep within me, I already had gold hidden,  Waiting to be found. Until I met a powerful heart, Who had found infinite treasures, All within.  And taught me to believe, Gave me strength, And self belief, And cleared the noise. He showed me a map, To a gold deep within. So now I venture inward, On my adventure, Discarding the senses, To the beautiful inner treasures that await me. Where there is no beginning, And no end. I wait patiently till I find it. The magic of the heart invigorates my soul, I wait and wait, Patiently for the magic to unfold, And trust Him to guide me, To the blossoming treasures in my own Heart.

Let me love like You love

Image
Living, breathing in skin and bones.   Can we love beyond what we touch, feel, hear, see?  Let me love like You love  A task so easy yet so hard  Having tasted love beyond the 3 dimensions in the opportunity of darkness You removed all the darkness at once  And filled it with dramatic light in an instant  Your love is beyond time, space and expectation.  Let me love like You love?  A task so easy yet so hard  This isn’t any magic  Neither is it creative imagination Or a work of fiction  But an experience in the opportunity of darkness  Just an ode to how much I don’t know  Let me love like You love?  (A poem inspired by an ancient Indian text — Narada Bhakti Sutra)

The Ocean Beyond Time & Space

Image
There is an ocean above us That equalizes everything  And the purest of forms guide us towards this equalizing ocean Can I lend my hand to Him? So He pulls me in the Ocean upwards? The Ocean He points me towards lies beyond all emotions and the conflicts of right and wrong  The Ocean is beyond all dimensions we know and don't know Beyond even life and death All He asks is to hold His hand so I can swim in it too He is the source of the Ocean All the great ones are there and continue to guide us there beyond the dimensions of time They see and experience an Ocean of reality beyond time & space and have jumped right in it Can we see the Ocean and jump in it too?  With a little help from these pure beings - Yes we can.

Lone Sailor.

Image
Sailing in the stormy waters, unaware what lies ahead of me.  A million stormy days pass, and I can start to feel myself give up.  I wondered if this was my fate.  Almost giving into defeat.  I clear my heart to the possibility that I can ride out this storm too.  Oh but I shut my eyes and focus on my heart.  And I see you.  The strongest feet came along that pushed my boat away from the storm.  I see you.  You were always there, I just had to look in my heart. And you came.  Many stormy days came. But I rode them out with a smile knowing you were with me.  Now we sail together  And ride out every sunny day and storm together.  We were always meant to be one.  How could I forget you?!  I sail in the storm, but there is no sign of defeat. Our love helps us ride every wave together.  Sometimes, we dance on the boat to the infinite rhythms of the waves.

What If Science & Religion Shook Hands?

Image
There is a certain innocence and optimism in thinking that Science has all the answers. We live in 2021 how can it not?! There is such beautiful naivety in that belief. Nowadays, many of us  are conditioned to be evidence based and we should be thankful to our education system for that. Generally, we don't make decisions in life without data backing it. At work or at home we make well-researched decisions backed by data and evidence, and when we do not have enough data, we generate forecasting data models and hypotheses to answer the questions using the power of the mind. To the ancient humans, when they saw the Solar Eclipse, they didn't have the scientific explanation behind it - so they had other hypotheses - wild ideas. As humans in 2021, of course we know why the solar eclipse happens, we know the science behind it. So for all the things we do not know, one could draw the conclusion that all the things we do not know or do not understand are just scientific evidence waitin...

Are we all astronauts already?

Image
When I was young, I had a book on the solar system that explained concepts of outer space - the joy I felt looking through the pictures and reading all about the stars and planets as a young child! It was thrilling. Ever since then, I wanted to go to Outer Space until I experienced 2020. Ah 2020 - I'll get to that year in a bit. Separately, I also recently watched this film - This is Mars - compiled from NASA's Perseverance Rover on Mars. In the film, Mars looks just like some parts of the Earth. So if it is all just the same, why do I want to go Space? Isn't Space on Earth too? Am I not in Space already? I'm already on the third planet revolving around the brightest star in our Solar System. Then why am I so charmed with the idea of visiting Outer Space when Space is right here on Earth?! To add to that, I already throw around space a bunch in my daily life -  "I need some space. " "I want to go to Space! " "I hit space to see a space betwee...

Why the Wimbledon and Cricket final made me question ‘you win or you lose’

What a sporting weekend we got to witness this past summer weekend. Heart thumping, nail biting, edge of the seat thrill and heartbreak. Both sides (Federer vs Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, England vs New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup final) put their best foot forward. In my assessment, there was only one winner in both matches: luck triggered by artificially constructed human rules. This is my opinion, I’m not a tennis or cricket expert, but as an audience member, I could not walk out saying one side was clearly better than the other. I’d argue that the losing side deserved to win as much as the winning side. Without going into the technical aspects of the game (sorry this piece doesn’t explore that aspect), I’d love to explore and challenge the binary concept of ‘you win or you lose in sport’ in this opinion piece. In the matches the past weekend,  based on a sample size of my friends and family, the losing side were as much the winners as the actual winners of the tourna...

How science helps build a culture of truth

Image
One of the main reasons I am passionate about science (specifically physics) is because it brings me closer to the objective truth (or I think it does). Science is my obsessive curiosity, be it geeking out on "Physics girl" on YouTube or constantly trying to drill down on Einstein's relativity during my shower, I'm usually science-ing and asking questions when I get a little time to myself. If I'm being honest, I get very little time to myself nowadays, but whenever I do, I spend it trying to understand the world around me through science. Although, I'm not a science graduate, I am a passionate student of science. My love for science was something I only discovered about myself in my early/mid 20s. I was reading a philosophy book which talked about science and proof. Next thing I knew, there I was watching Neil DeGrasse Tyson on Netflix. So clearly I'm not the real deal PhD in physics nerd (wish I was though), but I'm curious. I was mindlessly ...

I walked on the moon today (via Google Cardboard).

Image
Today, I did something I never thought I would get to do in my lifetime. I walked on the moon and saw what the earth and sun looked like from there.  To be clear, I wasn't technically walking on the moon (and it wasn't a dream).  Virtual reality (via Google Cardboard) gave me a walking on the moon experience today. My mind was blown. The earth looked like a big beautiful blue spherical jewel in the sky. The sight of our big blue planet triggered introspection in my mind on how human beings live (and fight), but maybe we'll get to those thoughts in another blog post. Thanks to the progress of virtual reality, I was able to visualize what our planet looks like from another perspective. For the first five minutes, As I "stood" on a crater of the moon, I couldn't stop looking at the blue ocean filled sphere in the sky and the stars around it. Apart from walking on the moon, I also rode on a rollercoaster, saw the Eiffel tower, went into an i...

My Journey with Einstein

Image
Astrophysics mixed with philosophy, these were the two lenses through which I ended up interpreting Einstein’s theories. A few months ago, I stumbled upon Einstein's theory of relativity. I read a blog online about how Einstein’s theories are deeply connected with philosophy and spiritualism that got me hooked. After spending a lot of time trying to understand the theory, watching videos, reading blogs, reaching out to people who I thought were experts, I thought I could at least to an extent understand the broad concept of the theory.  Now this piece really isn't about astronomy or Einstein, I'm not even going to try to explain the theory here as I feel like I don't understand the nuances of the theory. Just the broad concept was enough for me, and that's what I'll live with for now. I have to give a lot of credit here to Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s documentary on Netflix called ‘Cosmos – A spacetime odyssey’. That series left me in pure wonder, gave me perspec...

Van Gogh's Starry Night And The Fabric Of Spacetime.

Image
Maybe, I'm linking variables that shouldn't be linked. Maybe, I'm seeing patterns where I shouldn't. But I am convinced that Van Gogh's starry night has had a tremendous impact on how I perceive the sky. Here's a little story. This painting allowed me to see the sky from Van Gogh's perspective or opened my imagination to another world. As humans, when we look up at the sky, all we see is- 1) Blue 2) Stars 3) Sun 4) Moon 5) Clouds 6) Darkness But our minds and imagination can truly move through different intersections of space and time to look beyond the obvious. We are currently overdependent on our eyesight. When we look at the sky, all we are 'capable' of seeing is the 5 things I mentioned above. But why don't we have the 'natural' ability to understand that we are rotating along with the Earth and revolving around the sun in a Universe where we cannot see the edge, nor the end or beginning. We are part of something that...

Einstein's relativity and thinking in the shower.

I have been trying to break my head to understand Einstein's theory of relativity purely through imagination and not mathematics or science. I know that sounds crazy and stupid, but trying to imagine yourself traveling in a rocket at the speed of light because of which time slows down for you is a fun thought experiment while in the shower. I'm sorry if this sounds like a wrong thought experiment for Einstein's theory, but at least I'm trying. I am nowhere close to cracking the theory or understanding it. I do a lot of thinking in the shower. Although, I don't quite get it yet, these thought experiments lead to other AHA moments for me which might be completely illogical or logical or truthful or wrong. I'm not quite sure if these thoughts are scientific. They're just things I think. So here's a little peek into one of those moments: AHA moment #1: Truth can be relative. On this planet that we live, there is no right or wrong answer. Let's say I ...

Understanding spring!

Image
I couldn't quite estimate the apparent happiness spring had the potential to bring, I thought of it as just a season. But it all changed when I moved here to the mid-west. But think of this. Imagine being covered in layers, with your eyes firmly on the ground for a few months, as the cold wind didn't allow you to look up and look at your surroundings. All you could really see was the indoors, everything white. At first snow charms you, it makes you feel like you're living in magic, where everything is white.  However, after a while, it gets to you. You realize that your surroundings have lost color.  Until spring enters, you start to see little flower buds pop up at every nook and corner. And more importantly when spring arrived, I had the luxury to move around, without being bundled up all the time, without any angry cold wind gushing in my face, and I felt like something was changing. The problem is now, that my mind still thinks its winter. I th...

The song of the self

Image
This is a song of the self that beautifully puts forth the idea of a soul, without explicitly saying so. It was written by an Indian philosopher and gives me goosebumps every time I read it :) I am Thought, I am Joy, I am He, I am He. Without hate, without infatuation, without craving, without greed; Neither arrogance, nor conceit, never jealous I am; Neither dharma, nor artha, neither kama, nor moksha am I; I am Thought, I am Joy, I am He, I am He. Without sins, without merits, without elation, without sorrow; Neither mantra, nor rituals, neither pilgrimage, nor Vedas; Neither the experiencer, nor experienced, nor the experience am I, I am Thought, I am Joy, I am He, I am He. Without fear, without death, without schism, without jati; Neither father, nor mother, never born I am; Neither kith, nor kin, neither teacher, nor student am I; I am Thought, I am Joy, I am He, I am He. Without form, without figure, without resemblance am I; Vitality of...

Time-lapse dreaming.

Image
To begin with, this is a simple story. I know the words 'time-lapse dreaming' sound incredibly complicated, or maybe new, or just ridiculous. But trust me, this is simple. So, I visited Boston over the winter break, and tried to go walking/running as much as I could have. On one of those days, as I was walking, I looked at the trees around me, all the leaves had fallen, it was winter. This might seem like an obvious observation to you. But, I had visited Boston in the beginning of Fall earlier this year too, and had gotten to see a glimpse of how gorgeously colorful and the beautiful the trees were. So the absence of any color in the winter was eye-catching too.  So as I continued to walk, I saw this one particular leaf strewn on the ground before me as I walked, while I was also watching the colorless, lifeless trees.  Then, for whatever reason, I thought of a time-lapse. I imagined, how this tree would be full of life and color and thriving with energy ...
